On the bench: the NES tray is taking shape.
The early printed tray is inside the console, the mounting holes line up, and the next round of mechanical and electrical revisions is underway.
The latest NES cartridge-tray prototype has made it off the printer and into the console. The early green print is giving me something real to compare with the factory tray, and the mounting holes line up well. That is useful progress, but there is more fitting to do.
I’m refining the outer shape and full floor while keeping the mounting geometry that already lined up. The next tray design removes the raised connector frame so the tray fit and cartridge seating can be checked first. The green print in these photos is the earlier prototype, not that newer CAD revision. In the comparison photo, the black factory tray is shown from underneath.
The connector board needs another revision too. Electrical checking found unintended connections in the first PCB layout. That revision is on hold while the copper layout is corrected, and the replacement will need isolation, continuity and functional checks before it can be called a working kit.
The Gengar NES enclosure is still moving forward alongside this work, with further assembly details and full-enclosure ideas in development. I’m keeping the workshop focused on real prints, measured changes and honest progress rather than calling a prototype finished too soon.
The gallery now includes the installed early tray, the factory comparison and a connector measurement photo. Some photo backgrounds have been tidied for privacy; the original photos and physical measurements remain the reference for the design. Preorder notifications are still a way to follow the project, not an order or a release-date promise.
